Brown Gibbons Lang & Company Adds Key Ingredient to Food & Beverage Investment Banking Group

Brown Gibbons Lang & Company, a leading middle market investment bank, today announced the enhancement of its Food & Beverage Group with the addition of H. Glen Clarke as managing director and head of the group.

“We could not be more pleased to have an investment banker with Glen’s industry experience and excellent reputation join our firm,” said Scott Lang, senior managing director and CEO of BGL. “The food and beverage industry has been an increasingly important focus of ours, and with the leadership of a veteran like Glen and the other professional resources we are committing to this industry, we expect this will be one of the fastest growing sectors in our firm.”

Clarke joins BGL’s Chicago office from Harris Nesbitt, the U.S. investment banking division of Bank of Montreal and its Harris Bank subsidiary in Chicago, where he was managing director and head of the diversified food group. In addition to his 15-plus-year career originating and executing corporate finance transactions within the food industry, Clarke also brings a broad set of relationships within the private equity community that will fit well with BGL’s strong commitment to serving this important client group.

Leslie A. Nolan, who had worked closely with Clarke at Harris Nesbitt, also joins BGL in Chicago as an associate in the Food & Beverage Group. The group is augmented by other BGL veterans, including William P. Watkins, director, and Charles F. Fultz, vice president, both from BGL’s Cleveland office.

“This industry expertise coupled with BGL’s excellent reputation for middle market advisory services provides the foundation for us to build one of the premier investment banking food and beverage groups in the country,” said Lang.

The primary focus of BGL’s Food & Beverage Group is to provide middle market companies, which typically are valued between $50 million and $500 million, both in the U.S. and abroad with high quality investment banking services including M&A services, equity and debt capital raising, and financial restructuring advice.

“The middle market segment of the food and beverage industry is vast, dynamic and increasingly multi-national, yet it has traditionally been covered by investment bankers who are generalists without much international reach,” said Clarke. “We feel a dedicated industry effort with experienced and knowledgeable investment bankers — who have extensive relationships throughout the food industry in the U.S. and abroad — will significantly differentiate BGL’s practice from the competition.”
