Brown Gibbons Lang & Company announced today the sale of the Canadian, Northeast, and Southwest operations of TAD Metals, Inc. to O’Neal Steel, Inc., the largest family-owned metals service center in the United States.
Headquartered in Monroe, New Jersey, TAD is primarily recognized as a stainless steel focused service center distributing sheet and coil products. More recently, TAD established a major presence in the Southwest region via strong growth in its stainless steel plate product line. TAD also distributes stainless steel, aluminum and other metals in pipe, bar, tube, extruded, and various structural forms. TAD is comprised of six facilities located in Monroe, New Jersey and Norwell, Massachusetts (“Northeast”), Dallas, Texas, Houston, Texas, and San Marcos, Texas (“Southwest”), and Mississauga, Canada (“Canada”). Former TAD shareholders are retaining Southeast facilities located in Alpharetta, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida. The Southeast facilities will continue to operate under the legal business name, AP Specialty Metals.
Per TAD’s President, “We engaged BGL as a result of the firm’s exceptional experience within the service center industry. The firm’s well-established brand and relationships within the executive ranks of the strategic buyer community enabled BGL to accommodate the shareholders’ primary interest of maintaining the highest level of confidentiality throughout the entire sale process. BGL effectively, and expeditiously, marketed the company to a targeted audience and delivered a range of liquidity options for the shareholders. We are thrilled with the result delivered by BGL in this important transaction.”
Effram Kaplan, co-head of BGL’s metals practice commented, “BGL was enthusiastic about representing the shareholders’ primary interest in approaching a targeted audience of buyers on a highly confidential basis. Given the many experiences BGL has in representing service centers, we were able to ideally leverage our relationships to accommodate the shareholders’ transaction goals. Nonetheless, management made it easy on us. The entire TAD management team has impressively established TAD as a well-regarded national service center with superior processing capabilities. I clearly expect them to continue such a track record with their Southeast facilities.”
