Brown Gibbons Lang & Company Announces Promotions, Staff Changes

Brown Gibbons Lang & Company, a leading middle market investment bank, today announced the promotion of four professionals and two other staff changes. Receiving promotions are:

  • John R. Tilson, from director to managing director. In his 15 years in investment banking, Tilson has focused on mergers and acquisitions for private equity clients and entrepreneurs. At BGL he has completed transactions in the manufacturing, consumer products, and business services industries. He is based in the Chicago office.
  • Michael D. Shaffer, from senior associate to vice president. Shaffer, who is based in Chicago, has completed transactions primarily in the manufacturing, transportation and logistics, and building and construction products industries. He also is responsible for managing the firm’s analyst staff.
  • Sean J. Sullivan, from associate to vice president. Chicago-based Sullivan has completed transactions mainly in the healthcare, business services and industrial manufacturing sectors.
  • Effram E. Kaplan, from associate to senior associate. Kaplan has completed transactions primarily in the industrial distribution and direct marketing industries. He is based in Cleveland.

Other Moves

Julie A. Crothers has joined BGL as communications director, based in Chicago. She is responsible for developing and implementing the firm’s marketing communications strategies. She previously held positions in communications and public relations at Morningstar, Inc. and at JPMorgan Global Asset Management.

Wendy S. Neal moves from vice president of marketing for Brown Gibbons Lang & Company to director of marketing at Global M&A, a partnership of middle market boutique investment banks, including BGL, in 28 countries. She is based in Cleveland.
